INDEPENDENCE OF KOSOVA Photo-Story (part 3.)

Saturday night, still -15 C, less than 24h from declaring Independence. These young guys held albanian and american flags each, and they were wearing proudly traditional costumes hats called "PLIS"!! On the other side, my fingers were freezing, but how on earth would I leave this historical moment for anything in the world?! I am still happy that I was alive to witness those grand moments. God bless all the war victims and our soldiers who gave their lives for this!!

Your pictures from Kosovo touch my heart. I share in your joy from overseas, and wish I could be there in that bitter cold to celebrate the birth of a new nation.

Our news [in the US] is laden with protests from Serbians burning trash and vehicles in the streets of Belgrade, but all of us [at least all I know] support Kosovo as independent.

It's such a profound and beautiful thing. :)

I feel so good to hear that my pics touch you!! And yes I know serbians in Belgrade are out of their minds (they always were, as far as I know), and I am very sorry they are attacking US Embassy, USA was our biggest supporter from the beginning and still is!!

Thank you very much !!

I feel a deep profound connection to Kosovo and its people, and seeing all of these folks out there in the cold celebrating makes me want to celebrate too.

My friends think I'm out of my mind- some of them aren't really thinking about it, and don't realise the struggle that went into all of this.

Don't apologise for the Serbians, they're acting crazy.

I'm all for Kosovo pride! :)

Awww!! I am very glad you think like this!! I'm loving your brain :D :aww:!!

I was out there for 3 days/nights, and I was freezing, but if somebody asks me if I regret it; I'd say, I would like to live those days all over again, so I could be a part of some events I missed and feel that special again!!

Thank you again !!!

My American-government class is talking a lot about it, too. :3 Mostly, I watch the news, but nothing's more accurate than talking to you, Blerta. From a writer's perspective, it's nice to put a personal name and face on the situation. :) Makes it feel so much more real.

It's like... I get a little more information than the people who just watch the news. I see the really good side, too. I think our news should really focus more on the parades and crowds instead of Belgrade.

On our news stations, the Serbians are portrayed as extremist fools. :p There was even a shot of someone mooning the police...

But nothing as adorable as your photography. :) Like the little kid with the cold hands!
